Notes (School Records, Career Highs, Season Highs, etc.): Freshman pitcher Trey Killian made his collegiate debut in the season-opening victory vs. Western Illinois … Killian pitched three perfect innings, retiring all nine batters he faced and striking out one … Killian’s strong outing helped the Razorbacks’ to a 9-1 victory over the Leathernecks in the season opener.

Team Notes:
The top-ranked Arkansas baseball team opened the 2013 season by taking two of three games from Western Illinois last weekend. The Razorbacks defeated the Leathernecks 9-1 on Friday and 7-2 on Saturday before falling in the series finale 7-5 on Sunday. As a team, Arkansas hit .306, while the Razorback pitching staff had a 2.33 ERA. Sophomore infielder/outfielder Brian Anderson led Arkansas at the plate with a .545 batting average with four RBI and three runs scored. Redshirt freshman outfielder Tyler Spoon hit .500 in the series and drove in three runs, while senior outfielder Matt Vinson batted .385 with three RBI and four runs scored. Sophomore outfielder Joe Serrano had four hits in seven at bats with two RBI and two runs scored. Senior infielder Jacob Mahan was 3-for-8 with a RBI. On the mound, freshman Trey Killian and sophomore Jalen Beeks each threw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Beeks had four strikeouts in his performance. Senior Tyler Wright pitched two shutout innings in relief as well. Juniors Barrett Astin and Ryne Stanek each earned victories in the series. Astin allowed a run in five innings, while Stanek gave up a run in four innings. Junior Brandon Moore pitched out of the bullpen in the series finale and gave up just one run with a career-high tying five strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Arkansas continues its season-opening, eight-game home stand this week with five games. The Razorbacks will host New Orleans on Tuesday and Wednesday. Next weekend, Arkansas welcomes Evansville to Baum Stadium for a three-game series next Friday-Sunday.
