FAYETTEVILLE – The seventh-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team takes on a talented field at the 2013 Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., Oct. 11-13.
The Razorbacks enter the tournament as the second highest ranked team in the field trailing only No. 4 Oklahoma but Arkansas will have its hands full with a field that also includes host and No. 12 North Carolina, No. 13 Alabama, No. 14 North Carolina State, No. 16 Vanderbilt, No. 17 South Carolina and No. 19 Clemson to name a few.
“This event features another really great field,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor
said. “Our first two tournaments also had a lot of the top teams in them and we know that we want to test ourselves against the best teams out there week in and week out. This is another chance for us to see where we are this fall and to get better.”
If there is one thing the Razorbacks know, that is how to get better. The team has shown improvement in each of the first two events culminating in a team title at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate in Tennessee along with the individual title by senior Emily Tubert
, the first of the season and the sixth of her career.
Sophomore Regina Plasencia
has also played well this season with a fifth place finish in the first event and a runner-up finish in Tennessee. She tied teammate Gabriela Lopez
at the Mercedes as three Razorbacks all had chances to win the tournament.
“We have been solid and balanced so far this season,” Estes-Taylor said. “This team has been so focused on getting better and yet they still have a lot of fun on and off the course. They are a great group of players to be around and Mike (Adams, assistant coach) and I are excited to see what they will do this week.”
Senior Emma Lavy
and freshman Summar Roachell
round out the traveling five this week.
The Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational takes place at the UNC Finley Golf Course, a par 72, 6,285 yard course in Chapel Hill, N.C. Live stats will be posted on BirdieFire.com.
