FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s golf team returns to the links after a long winter break traveling to the 2014 Lady Puerto Rico Challenge in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, Sunday-Tuesday.

Tough weather conditions have forced some creative practices for Arkansas and the team departed a day early to get in  extra practice rounds before the competition.

Head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor traveled six players to the event headlined by seniors Emily Tubert and Emma Lavy. Sophomores Regina Plasencia and Gaby Lopez along with freshman Summar Roachell make up the counting five with redshirt freshman Kayli Quinton competing as an individual this weekend.

Plasencia leads the No. 8 (Golfstat.com) Razorbacks as the top-ranked women’s golfer in the Southeastern Conference following the fall season.  The Mexico City, Mexico, native has a 70.91 stroke average after four fall tournaments.

Lopez is nipping on her heels and begins the fall as the third-ranked player in the SEC with a 71.18 stroke average on a very competitive Razorback team this year.

Tubert checks in at No. 6 in the conference with a 71.91 average and Lavy at No. 17 with a 73.55 average after the fall.

The Razorbacks are scheduled for a shotgun start on Sunday at 8 a.m.  Teams again tee off at 8 a.m. in the second round followed by a 7:30 a.m. start Tuesday for the final day of play.

Other teams in this year’s field include No. 7 Alabama, No. 29 Auburn, Augusta State, No. 53 Georgia, No. 22 Iowa State, No. 25 Kent State, No. 117 Michigan, No. 81 Missouri, No. 15 North Carolina State, No. 19 Northwestern, No. 66 Purdue, No. 43 TCU, No. 67 Tennessee and No. 59 Texas Tech.
