ATHENS, Ga. – The fourth-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team won two matches advancing to the championship match of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga., Saturday.

Arkansas opened the day with a 3.5-1.5 win over Denver in the first match of the day. Sophomore Regina Plasencia defeated Isabel Southard, 3-and-2.  Senior Emma Lavy defeated Jessica Caty, 3-and-2, and sophomore Gabriela Lopez defeated Tonje Daffinrud, 3-and-2.  Freshman Summar Roachell ended her match all square while senior Emily Tubert picked up a 3-and-2 win for Arkansas.

The victory moved Arkansas along in the bracket where they faced Mississippi State in the second match of the day.  The Bulldogs defeated Alabama, 3-2.

The Razorbacks matched that in the nightcap winning 3-2 over the Bulldogs.  Plasencia defeated Mary Langdon Gallagher 3-and-1, Tubert rallied to win 2-and-1 over Jessica Peng and Lopez defeated Ally McDonald, 1-up giving Arkansas the victory.

With the wins, Arkansas moves into the Championship Match taking on top-ranked Southern California.  The Women of Troy defeated Auburn, 3-1, in the morning match and North Carolina State, 3-1, in the second match

“It was a really good day today,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said.  “It came down to the wire and Gaby sank a 15-footer on the 17th hole for our third point and the win.  I’m so incredibly proud of this group.  After nine holes we knew we had a big mountain to climb.  The team dug team and climbed the mountain and trusted their preparation.  We came here with a mission to learn this format and how to play in it and how to prepare ourselves and we look forward to the opportunity tomorrow to win the Liz Murphey.

It was a long day and I’m thankful for all of the people who help us get ready every day,” she continued.  “Mike (Adams),Whitney (Branham) and Natalie (Trotter) do a great job and we were ready for today.”

The final match against USC is scheduled for an 8 a.m. central start to the day.
