Jeff Nutt provides the Hogs with a veteran catcher in 2008 ... the senior started 14 games behind the plate in 2007 and 51 games overall with 37 starts at designated hitter ... led the team in doubles with 16 and was fourth on the team in RBI with 41 ... the left-handed hitting catcher is an outstanding line-drive hitter and a hard-nosed player who should find a spot in the lineup because of his tools at the plate ... possesses good receiving skills behind the plate with a strong arm that is aided by a quick transfer and release ... played for Coppell in the Texas Collegiate League during the summer of 2007 ... hit. 317 with four doubles and a .400 on-base percentage ... selected as the No. 9 pro prospect in the TCL by Baseball America.

 

Junior (2007)

SEC Tournament: Nutt broke out of his slump with a single vs. South Carolina in the second game of the tournament on May 24 and went on to hit .419 for the tournament and 5 for 8 (.625) over the final three games ... was 3 for 4 with a double and a runs scored in the championship game against No. 1 Vanderbilt. NCAA Fayetteville Regional: Nutt started two games of the regional and played in another as he with 3 for 8 (.375) for the tournament with two RBI and a double ... was a defensive replacement vs. Albany in the regional opener on June 1 ... then went 1 for 3 in a start at designated hitter vs. Creighton on June 3 ... was 2 for 5 vs. Oklahoma State in the championship game with a double and two RBI.

 

Navarro [Texas] College (2005-06)

Nutt played for head coach Skip Johnson at Navarro [Texas] College ... connected for 10 home runs, 31 doubles and 63 RBI in his two years at Navarro. Sophomore (2006): Nutt batted .327 in his sophomore campaign at Navarro ... pounded out 56 hits in 171 at bats with 16 doubles, two triples and four home runs ... scored 45 runs and drove in 38 more ... posted a .490 on-base percentage ... named to the Region XIV East All-Conference team. Freshman (2005): He hit .330 with six home runs, 15 doubles and 25 RBI.

 

Wylie High School

Nutt played his high school baseball at Wylie High School ... a three-team all-district honoree. Senior (2004): Nutt batted .390 with five home runs and 28 RBI ... had 16 doubles while posting an on-base percentage of .503 ... earned first-team all-district honors and was named a team captain. Junior (2003): He hit .340 with six home runs and 21 RBI ... had 12 doubles and a .480 on-base percentage ... was a second-team all-district selection. Sophomore (2002): Nutt collected 25 RBI with four home runs while hitting .310 ... named honorable mention all-district. Freshman (2001): He hit just over .300 with two home runs. 

 

Personal

Jeff is the son of Kelly and Dianne Nutt ... he has one sister, Rendi ... majoring in sociology ... grandfather was an All-American football player at SMU ... chose UA over TCU and Texas Tech.
