FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Arkansas football continued fall camp on Wednesday night with a 90-minute session on the practice fields located just south of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

Wednesday’s practice stayed true to camp-form as a variety of game-like situations were thrown at the position groups. Taking a different route, head coach Houston Nutt cut back on some basics and went straight to game-time situations.

“We put our guys in a lot of different situations tonight: second and long, third and long, third and medium,” Nutt said. “We are just trying to get them to play the game. We cut down on some individual time, some fundamental time and went right into playing the game. I can’t wait to watch this film. I think we got a lot of really good things accomplished.”

During game-like situations, Nutt spotted good things happening on both sides of the ball. He is pleased with the progress based on the short time he has spent on the practice field with his veterans and his newcomers during the 2007 fall camp.

“We are throwing and catching better,” Nutt said. “The defense is running to the ball better. I told a couple of the freshmen today, ‘if you took the first day of film compared to today, the fourth or fifth day, you have gotten better.’ That’s what it’s about. You either get better or you get worse. You have to keep doing it at full speed.”

Wednesday’s practice marked the final day in shorts and shoulder pads. The Razorbacks will be working out in full pads on Thursday. With the temperatures slated to remain on the hot and humid side, Nutt hopes his squad is ready for the change that will come with the addition of full pads.

“This is where the grind comes in,” Nutt said. “Now we put on pads. It’s still going to be hot. You are going to be a little heavier now. You still want the feel of the game. You still want to play fast. I love our attitude. I love what we are getting accomplished. We just have to keep going, keep getting better.”

The Razorbacks will be back on the practice field Thursday evening at 6:15. Log on to www.hogwired.com for continued coverage of Arkansas football.
