Dimitrov did pose a stiff opposition to Murray but Murray with his excellent play could overcome all odds to win the title. Murray played some exceptional tennis throughout the whole week in the China Open leading up to the finals.

However, China Open women’s finals did not carry any good news for British fans. Briton Johanna Konta fell to Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets 6-4 6-2 in the finals.

In a post-match interview with Sky Sports Murray said that this year has been his most consistent year in his career as a tennis player. He said that he got to the final stages “most of the” tournaments he played this year.

According to Murray, the week leading up to the finals of the China Open has been great for him. He considered his match in the finals against the Bulgarian Dimitrov to be of very high quality. Murray felt that the Bulgarian fought till the very end and made things really difficult for him. He was very glad for having played exceedingly well in the last couple of matches. Now his eyes are on the Shanghai open.

Dimitrov entry into the finals of the China Open didn’t seem to be hard-fought as his opponent Milos Raonic had to withdraw from the match due to ankle injury enabling Dimitrov a comfortable entry to the finals.

In the finals, Murray looked very clinical in his approach. He broke the Bulgarian’s serve in the opening game of the finals. However, Murray had to defend a break point at 3-2 although he eventually clinched the set. In the second set, Dimitrov did try to make things difficult for Murray. However, at the end of the day, the Briton seemed to be too good for him. In the second set tie-break, Murray got a mini-break on the first point after which Dimitrov fought back. Murray, however, seemed to be resolute. He won six of the next seven points to clinch the China Open title.

This year Murray has been playing exceedingly well. He has bagged the Wimbledon singles title and also the Rio Olympics gold medal for men’s singles this year.
