India Eyeing Major Records Ahead Of The Fourth Test

After having won two matches in the five-match series against England, India has already sealed the series. However, it is likely that the home team might now look forward to achieving a feat of having the highest undefeated run in the test matches. India is now undefeated in the last 16 test matches that were played on the home grounds. The last loss that the nation had suffered was against the English team in the year 2012, in Kolkata. Other than that, the current form of the test team, under the captaincy of Kohli seems to be in the best shape, as the team has won seven out of the 10 test matches that were to be played in the calendar year.

Apart from setting up the records, the team would also be looking forward to settling with the best opening pair possible. The openers of the team have not been able to make it big for the team. In fact, the positions in itself have been a dilemma. This is because, as many as five sets of openers have tried their luck in the top two positions since the series against West Indies, New Zealand and England.

India has mostly relied on three openers, namely Shikhar Dhawan, M. Vijay and K.L. Rahul. Along with these young talents, the experienced Parthiv Patel and Gautam Gambhir have also tried their luck. However, now it seems the right time that the team finalises an opener pair, who would be able to perform well. This is also important, as the Australian team will be arriving early next year, for a four-match test series.

Talking about the same, Anil Kumble, the head coach of the Indian cricket team said that ideally the team would love to settle with a pair of openers. However, he also said that he thinks that the team has done really well in the given circumstances. The head coach also hinted that KL Rahul might be back in the squad for the 4th Test match between India and England.
