Indian Batting Coach Justifies the Inclusion of Gautam Gambhir In The Test Team

The inclusion of Gautam Gambhir after the unfortunate withdrawal of two batsmen Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul from the Indian team seems to have given a bit of stability to the Indian batting line-up for the final against the Kiwis. Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar said that Gautam Gambhir’s inclusion will be very significant for the Indian team in their long home season. Gautam Gambhir who hails from Delhi was impressive with the bat in the Indian domestic season. After two long years, Gambhir has been able to make it to the squad of the Indian team. He was not in the playing eleven for the Kolkata. But after the recent thumb injury of Dhawan, Gambhir’s inclusion in the playing squad seems to be all but confirmed.

The Indian batting coach appreciating Gambhir as a player said that he is a “quality player” and has performed really well while he was absent from the Indian team. He also hailed his recent performances for his IPL franchise and his state team. Bangar also highlighted Gambhir’s run getting abilities and said that in Duleep Trophy this Delhi batsman was one of the highest run-getters. Those runs according to Bangar were of great value because they were made with the much talked about pink ball which most of the players found difficult to cope with. For Bangar, Gambhir appeared impressive in all the departments of the game.

The Indian batting coach brushed aside all the speculation and said that it is a fact that Gambhir is going to play in the third test as they are left with no other option with injuries to its two key batsmen KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan. According to Bangar, Gambhir has an impressive spin bowling record and this ability of his will be an asset for the Indian team on the turning tracks of the Indian pitches in their long home season.

After the series with the Kiwis, the Indians will be competing in two other test match series. The first one is against the English team and the next against Bangladesh.

Sanjay Bangar also didn’t give any importance to comments pertaining to the relatively poor batting form of the Indian captain in this ongoing series against the Black Caps. To assert the fact that Kohli is an excellent player Bangar highlighted his achievements in the Caribbean tour where he scored a double century. Bangar also didn’t fall short of mentioning Kohli’s 45 in the Kolkata test which, according to him, was very handy and vital for the team’s win.

The batting coach said the team will not lose its intensity and will take the third equally seriously like the previous ones despite having wrapped up the series.
