The first ODI between India vs. England ended with a smile on the face of Indian players. Captain Virat Kohli continued with his consistent performance in this match. His partnership with Kedar Jadhav was very much appreciated by everyone. Kohli and Kedar both hit a century with some fantastic shots. The most interesting thing seen during the match was that while the strong mid order players like MS Dhoni and failed to Yuvraj Singh failed to perform, Kedar Jadhav saved the match from going in the hands of English squad.
The match was also special for team India as the long gone batsman Yuvraj Singh was back. Yuvi was absent in the England’s Tour to India until the last test match but was able to secure a place in the three-match ODI series. Yuvraj Scored 15 Runs in 12 balls before losing his wicket to the Right arm medium fast English baller Ben Stokes. As Yuvraj Singh’s comeback in the team was not anticipated in this One Day International Series, it came as a shock to some. But according to the team captain, the selection of Yuvraj Singh was thoroughly thought upon. Apart from Dhoni, the middle order batting lineup lacked experienced batsmen who could play under pressure. The comeback of Yuvi would help the team to put a good figure on the scoreboard or chase a big one when needed. Kohli said in an interview “Yes, that (middle-order weakness) is something we have discussed before picking Yuvi because we cannot leave so much burden on MS alone in the middle order”. Now as Yuvi has made a come back in the team, the expectations remains high from him. Yuvraj Singh along with MS Dhoni are seen as attacking players who can bat well under pressure.
As ODI matches require more attacking players then test matches, the presence of Yuvraj Singh in the team will keep the batting order strong. The next match of the series is scheduled on 19 January at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.
