Hogwired All about sports Former captain Alan Shearer has said that England is a “laughing stock” in world football. Shearer made these comments after the departure of England’s manager only after 67 days. Sam Allardyce has left his post as England manager by mutual agreement. This was after a newspaper investigation which claimed that Allardyce offered advice on how to “get around” rules on transfers. In a sting operation by telegraph.co.uk, Allardyce was caught on camera where he was using his position to negotiate a £400,000 deal with businessmen while offering his advice on how to bend FA transfer rules.
In an interview with BBC Radio, 5 live Shearer said, “I’m angry, I’m sad, I’m staggered at the misjudgement from a guy who said this was his dream job.”
On the other hand, the former British Coach Allardyce has said that he was “deeply disappointed” to lose his job.
Allardyce came in the place of former manager Roy Hodgson after England crashed out of Euro 2016 at the last-16 stage, defeated by minnows Iceland.
Shearer further expressing his disappointment, added, “It’s incredible and a catastrophic misjudgement by Sam and his advisers. I’m angry at the whole situation. I didn’t think England could stop any lower from what happened in the summer at the Euros. Now here we are, a laughing stock of world football. It looks a poisoned chalice. All those managers that have left for right or wrong reasons. It’s a very, very difficult job – some would say the impossible job.”
Rio Ferdinand, another former British captain, said in an interview with BT Sport, “The England role has become comical. This was a man who was passionate about getting the job. He forced the FA to act. Naivety seems to be the word coming up. It’s disappointing for English football.”
Another former Wales midfielder commenting on Sam’s departure said, “I’ve got a little bit of sympathy for him, but he gave the FA no choice. England is a bit of shambles. First the Euros, now this. He will be devastated.”
Former England striker and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker considered Sam Allardyce’s poor judgement as for a reason for his eventual downfall.
Sam Allardyce, the outgoing English football team manager, made 578 league and cup appearances in a 21-year career which was spent mostly in the Football League, as well as short spells in the North American Soccer League and League of Ireland. Besides the English team he also previously managed Limerick, Notts County, Bolton Wanderers, West Ham United. The departure of the manager and recent loss at the Euros seems to have shattered the English team. Gareth Southgate will be in charge of the English Football team for its upcoming four matches against Malta, Slovenia, Scotland and Spain.
