Steve Bruce who was the former manager of Birmingham City F.C., replaced Roberto Di Matteo. Interestingly Birmingham City F.C. happens to be one of the arch rivals of Aston Villa F.C. The Italian Roberto Di Matteo did not last long in the club. His tenure lasted for only 124 days. His ouster came after the club rankings slumped to the 19th position after their recent debacle in the Premier League.

In an interview to the Aston Villa website, Bruce expressed his joy after he was appointed the manager of Aston Vila F.C. He considered this a wonderful opportunity. He said to be given the opportunity to manage a club like Aston Villa which is one of the big clubs of UK is “terrific”. He added that he will “relish the challenge” to make the club realise its goals. He expressed his desire to turn around the misfortunes of the club which it had faced in the last few years.

After Bruce quit as the manager of Hull City F.C. in July he was not associated with any other club until his recent appointment as the manager of Aston Villa F.C.

Bruce, who captained Manchester United previously, has managed several English football clubs in the past. Some of the prominent English soccer clubs managed by Bruce include Wigan Athletic, Sunderland and Sheffield United. Interestingly, in July, Bruce also sat for an interview for the post of manager for the English National team which was ultimately awarded to Sam Allardyce who recently lost his position.

Tony Xia, the owner of Aston Villa F.C, commenting on the appointment of Bruce said that his recent track record and his vast experience in the Premier League will be excellent for his team. According to him, his team has “secured the services of an excellent manager”.

Aston Villa F.C who has been English Champions for seven times had won the European Cup way back in 1982. In the inaugural Premier League season in 1992-93, this team also finished runners-up to Manchester United.

Chief Executive of Aston Villa Keith Wyness in a recent interview said that in their hunt for a manager their main focus was on the personality, character and experience of the person.  According to him, all these three virtues were found in Steve Bruce. He looks forward to working with this new manager in their quest to take this team to the position where it used to be in the past.
