World Number 6, Marin Cilic To Participate In The Chennai Open This Year

India is slowly creeping out of the “cricket-loving nation” tag and making its mark in other sports as well, The people of the nation are also loving and encouraging various sports in the nation. This is just the reason that the likes of the Indian Soccer League and the Pro Kabaddi League are gaining popularity with the people of the nation. One such other event that has been quite popular among the Indian crowd, is the Chennai Open. It is one of the best opportunities for the tennis lovers of the nation, to just get themselves glued to the action and watch their favourite players live. And this year, the action gets even bigger for the Tennis lovers, as the World Number 6, Marin Cilic has announced that he will be competing in the event.

The event will be held from 2nd of January and the venue will be the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Nungambakkam. Marin has already been two times champion in the event, that is the biggest of its kind in the nation. On 20th of November, Marin in a press conference announced that on the day he has broken into the top six in the world, he is elated to state that he will be participating in the Chennai Open. He also said that fairing well in the Chennai Open would be a great way to start off the New Year.

In the same press conference, Marin also stated that he hoped to break into the top five or might be even in the top 3 rankings soon and that the Chennai Open seems to be his “lucky hunting ground”. Marin had his first appearance in the tournament in the year 2008. It must be stated here, that he has won the prestigious title in twice in a row in the years 2009 and 2010. This year, he will be the biggest international star in the Chennai Open this year.
