The Indian cricket team was supposed to get a new sponsor for their jerseys. Well, the deal is now finalized and the well-known mobile company OPPO is announced as the new sponsor. OPPO is a Chinese company and mainly deals with smartphones.

The requirement for a new sponsor came in place, after Star India Pvt. Ltd, which was the sponsor for the team since December 2013 did not agree to continue the sponsorship with BCCI. The company decided not to bid for the jersey sponsorship of the national as well as the U-19 team. According to the CEO of the company, it has been a real matter of pride for the company as their names were carried on by the national and the U-19 cricketers. However, he says that according to various uncertainties the company would not be bidding to be the principal sponsors for the next 5 years.

After the revelation by the CEO of the well-known company, the speculations were around as to who would be the new sponsors of the Indian cricket team. Well, after a bid of an undisclosed amount, OPPO mobiles have been awarded with the sponsorship. Although the exact figures of the bid are yet to be known, according to our sources, the amount is the highest ever.

According to the new deal, BCCI has confirmed a base price of Rs. 2.2 crore a game, when they are bilateral ones, while Rs. 70 lakh for every international ICC tournament match. The base price this time is almost 15% higher than that of what Star India Pvt. Ltd had paid for their association back in the year 2013. OPPO India Pvt Ltd has got the sponsorship for 5 years starting from this April.

With the news coming into the picture that this has been the highest deal ever, it would be interesting to get the exact figures that OPPO has spent for the sponsorship. The previous highest was that paid by Sahara India Pariwar of Rs 3.34 crore.
