Cristiano Ronaldo Is Confident Of Achieving New Heights In The Current Football Season

Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo is hopeful that this football season will be a “spectacular” one for him. His comments come in the backdrop of a slow start to the season by him because of an injury to his knee ligament. This was stated in a news report by Agence France-Presse.

Ronaldo was off the football field for a two long months due to a sprained ligament in the knee which happened during the Euro 2016 final match between his home team Portugal and France. This final match was eventually won by Portugal. Because of this current knee injury, Ronaldo had to miss the first three games of the season. After his return to the football pitch, Ronaldo seemed to be a bit rusty scoring just once in the four La Liga games. However, this three-time World Player of the Year winner scored five goals in his home team clash against Andorra and the Faroe Islands in the past week.

While speaking to Madrid sports daily Marca on Friday this Portuguese football legend said that he suffered a serious injury which kept him out of the game for two months. After his return, he was a bit shaky. However, he said he is slowly feeling “feeling better and more confident”. Ronaldo felt that he has regained his original form. According to him, the current football season is very long and he is confident it was going to be a spectacular season for him.

According to reports, Cristiano Ronaldo is slated to sign a huge contract with the European champions in the coming days. This contract will be valid till 2021. Putting all speculations to rest Ronaldo also announced that he would retire in Madrid. Ronaldo has been all time top goal scorer for Real Madrid C.F. The Portuguese footballer joined this club in 2009. Ronaldo said that he did not expect to remain in the club for long and went on to add that he would  retire in Madrid because the club is in his heart. He said that by doing so he will get an opportunity to win individual and collective trophies. His greatest wish he said is to renew his contract with Real Madrid which will also enable him to stay in Madrid for many years in the future.

Ronaldo has only been successful in winning just one La Liga title in full seven seasons although the Portuguese footballer has won two Champions League titles and has also won the Ballon d’Or twice.

Ronaldo bagged an award for the 2015/16 best Champions League player last Thursday. This was voted by MARCA and Gazzetta dello Sport readers.
