Morgan pulled out of the recent Bangladesh tour citing security reasons. In his place, Englishman Jos Buttler led his side to a 2-1 series victory in the ODI series in Bangladesh.

The English team will be playing three ODIs and three T20s against India. The first ODI between India and England starts on 15th of January 2017.

Farbrace, commenting on Morgan’s inclusion, said that this player “deserves it”. He further added that the English team is consistently improving.

Along with Morgan opening batsman, Alex Hales also skipped the recent tour of Bangladesh. Some quarters were surprised at the decision of these players. Andrew Strauss who is England director of cricket expressed his disappointment to see the players pulling out of the recent tour.

Michael Vaughan, the former English skipper, considered this decision of Morgan to pull out of the Bangladesh tour as a “huge mistake”. On the other hand, another former captain of the English team Nasser Hussain said that Morgan “should be with his team”.

Farbrace expressed his happiness to see the English side being led by the experienced Buttler in the recent tour to Bangladesh. In the same breath, he also asserted the fact that Morgan will be the skipper for the upcoming series in India and there was no doubt about it.

After its group stage exit from the 2015 World Cup, the performance of the English team has considerably improved.

In the summer this year the English team beat Sri Lanka and Pakistan in their ODI series. They have also been successful in reaching the finals of the World Twenty20.

The team’s recent performance against Pakistan in August which saw the English team put a record score earned itself a lot of praise. These recent performances exhibited an attacking style of play by the English team. Farbrace has given full credit to Morgan for leading from the front and seeing these developments through. According to the assistant coach of the English team, Morgan has definitely shown his leadership skills and also allowed all the players to adopt an attacking style of play which has helped the team’s prospects recently.

Buttler also displayed his attacking skills by scoring two half-centuries during the three ODIs this month against Bangladesh. Buttler finished with an impressive 145 total runs with an average of 48 in the recent series. His top score in the series was 63.
