Former Indian Cricketing Aces Praise Bhuvneshwar Kumar For His Performance In the Kolkata Test

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s inclusion in the Indian squad has turned out to be profitable for the Indian team. His recent five-wicket haul which happens to be the first from an Indian pacer in home turf in the last five years seems to have given the Kiwis a big jolt in the Eden Gardens test. Saurav Ganguly, the former Indian captain, was full of praise for the current Indian captain and also Kumble for the inclusion of Kumar in the squad.

Ganguly, who is the current President of the Bengal Cricket Association, in a recent statement, said that one has to give credit to the team management for including Kumar. He recalled his words in which he had said that Eden Garden’s surface will be helpful for bowlers. According to Ganguly as soon as the Indian team management saw some grass on the pitch they had no second thoughts about including the pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Ganguly further added that Kumar did exactly what needs to be done on a green wicket, He put the ball in the right areas and got full dividends from it. Ganguly highlighted the fact that Kumar made the ball come into the right hander and go away from the right hander and he put doubts in the minds of the New Zealand batsmen. Ganguly felt that Kiwis were beginning to doubt after the wicket of Martin Guptill fell. Ganguly feels that the Eden wicket had enough pace and carry and Kumar’s way of handling the wicket to the profit of the Indian team was “exceptional”.

Kumar did not play the first Kanpur test. This fast bowler was also praised for his temperament by Ganguly. In an interview with India Today Ganguly said that for him the striking feature of Kumar is that he seizes the chance every time he gets it. Ganguly recalled the last test match against West Indies where Kumar was in the team after being left out of the previous two tests. In the third test against the Windies, he picked up 5 wickets and proved his importance in the team. In the same way, according to Ganguly, Kumar, after being left in the first test in the three-match test series against the Kiwis, Kumar got 5 wickets under his belt thus again proving the decision of the team management to pick him for the same test right. Kumar’s performance in the Kolkata test according to Ganguly speaks volumes about his attitude and his temperament which other pacemen can also emulate.

Kumar’s 5 wicket haul in the 3rd test in Gros Islet in the West Indies helped India to win. It must be recalled that Kumar also turned out to be the most economical bowler for the Indian team in the West Indies tour. Another former Indian player who was a spinner, Nikhil Chopra also praised Kumar and said that India must allow this paceman to start in every test. He said that the channel Kumar bowls in is incredible and he always creates doubts in the minds of the   batsmen and he also doesn’t allow batsmen to score feely while he is bowling. According to Chopra Kumar does not give width outside the off stump for the batsmen to hit. Chopra feels that Kumar puts the ball in the corridor of uncertainty and bowls like a seasoned professional. Chopra feels that Kumar has to be included in the Indian team to play every test match.
