The India and New Zealand ODI series beginning on October 16 this year will witness the return of Corey Anderson to the 15 member New Zealand squad. The 15 member Squad is lead by the right-handed batsman Kane Williamson. Anderson is an all rounder and has represented Mumbai Indians in the IPLs. He previously has represented Northern Districts in New Zealand first class cricket and New Zealand internationally. Corey Anderson is best known for hitting the fastest one-day century. He achieved this feat in the New Zealand –West Indies match on 1st January 2014. An aggressive run getter, Corey has proved to  be a valuable asset for New Zealand in the batting department. Anderson in the match against West Indies mentioned above, remained  unbeaten on 131 off 47 balls hitting 14 sixes and 6 fours. This record was eventually broken by AB de Villiers in 2015.

Commenting on Corey’s return, New Zealand’s selector Gavin Larsen said, “Corey’s superb professionalism throughout his rehab process has led to this point, and it’s a credit to him and the hard work he has put in. We’re excited to have Corey back. He provides power through the middle-order and knows the playing conditions in India well.”

Anderson has also played tests for New Zealand. He made his test debut on 9 July 2013 against Bangladesh . As a cricketer, he has an impressive record  with  five Man of the Match awards in ODIs and 2 in T20s. We also has to his credit  five-wicket haul ODIs and one ODI century. Anderson hasn’t played for New Zeland since February because of a back injury. Legendary Kiwi player Chris Cairns has been a role model for Anderson.

India has played a total 93 ODIs against New Zealand out of which 27 were played in India and 34 in New Zealand. Of those 93 ODIs, India has managed to win 46. And what’s interesting is out of 93 matches played only one was a tie and five were with no results.

The 15 member New Zealand for ODI series includes the likes of  Kane Williamson (c), Corey Anderson, Tom Latham, James Neesham, Luke Ronchi, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, BJ Watling,Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Anton Devcich, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Noted omissions are Henry Nicholls, Colin Munro, Brendon McCullum, Grant Elliott, Adam Milne.

The first ODI, which will be a day-night affair, starts at Dharamsala on October 16. The next matches will be on October 20,23,26,29  at New Delhi ,Mohali,Ranchi and Vishakapatnam respectively. Gautam Gambhir, while commenting on the upcoming ODIs, has said that spinners  will play a key and deciding role in the ODIs. About the New Zealand team, he said, “They have got a good squad. They have got three spinners (in Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi and Mark Craig) and spinners of whichever sides bowl well, will eventually decide the series.”

Doug Bracewell the pace bowler from New Zealand said that the spin-friendly tracks in India will pose a stiff challenge for their team.He further added,” “It’s always going to be a big challenge for us, the boys are pretty fizzed up and looking forward to getting stuck in.”

Anderson with his hard hitting batting skills and also the ability to medium fast bowling can definitely prove to be an asset for the current Kiwi team and also pose a hindrance to India’s prospects in the forthcoming ODIs.
