Alexander Zverev Is Seen As The Rising Star In Men’s Tennis

Alexander Zverev recently beat US Open Champion Stan Wawrinka to clinch the Saint Petersburg title. This is Zverev’s debut ATP title. He beat Wawrinka in a three sets thriller 6-2,3-6,7-5.

Alexander Zverev who resides in Monte Calo is 19 years old. He came to the St Petersburg Open with a lot of confidence. In the first set he broke Stan Wawrinka’s serve twice which eventually lead him to a one set lead in just 39 minutes. Stan Wawrinka is the Swiss top seed.

In the second set, the world number three had the edge and broke twice, eventually winning the set at 3-6. Wawrinka has won 11 of his previous ATP finals until he had the setback in the St Petersburg finals.

In the third and the deciding set Wawrinka broke Zverev’s serve early but the world no 27 fought back and broke back twice to win the match in 2 hours 23 minutes.

After the win, Zverev said, “I’m full of emotions! I just couldn’t have chosen a better place to win my maiden title. It was really hard when I was trailing 3-0 in the deciding set but I forced myself to keep on fighting. And now I’m really happy with my win”.

The Swiss top seed congratulated this upcoming player and said that he is the future of tennis.

Wawrinka congratulated Zverev calling him the future of tennis and added that he is already at the top. He showered praise on this young tennis player and said, “Today you’ve played a great match and won deservedly. My congratulations for what you’re doing so far.”
