Novak Djokovic Makes An Impressive Start At The Shanghai Masters

Current world number one Novak Djokovic seems to have regained his form in the current Shanghai Masters. He beat Fabio Fognini in straight sets on Tuesday to enter the second round match of the Shanghai Masters tournament. The set scores of this match was 6-3, 6-3. This happens to be the first win for the Serbian after his long recess from the game because of injuries. The world no 1 recently said that he played tennis not for earning titles but to revisit the inner joy he used to get when he played his favourite game. By his win in the second round the 12 times Grand Slam Champion seems be have come closer to this feeling again.

Djokovic in a comment said that when he enters in a tennis court he wants to play his best and try his best to win the match. But unlike previous occasions where he had a must-win mindset which used to stress him a lot, now he has a different mindset, one which is more focussed on rediscovering his inner joy.

Novak says that he has a “different kind of vision” now.

He feels that this summer has been a month of deep introspection for him. The world number 1 admitted that he was emotionally and mentally drained by too much pressure to win. His journey leading to his win in the French Open and completing a career slam was quite tiring for him both mentally and emotionally.

He was under tremendous pressure to win after his debacles in the Wimbledon and Rio Olympics. Novak crashed out of the third round in Wimbledon this year. After this poor form, Novak said that he was passing though some personal issues. In the Rio Olympics, although expectations were very high, he exited from the tournament in the first round. Novak admitted that he was probably too ambitious. He lost in the U.S Open finals where he was defeated by Wawrinka.

Before the Shanghai Masters began Novak, speaking to the reporters, said that in the last three months he saw a lot of ups and downs in his career. He didn’t quite get satisfaction while playing at the courts during this time. The Serbian said that now things have changed for him after he changed his mind set. He feels that he is already getting better now. In other words his changing of mindset seemed to have helped him. He admitted himself to be a different person from what he was three to six months ago

Novak seemed to be a bit error prone in his performance against Fognini with 18 unforced errors and only 13 winners. Novak is aiming to win his fourth Shanghai Masters title this year.
