WBO Set To Be Stripped Off Tyson Fury’s WBO Belt Unless He Responds

After the recent controversies surrounding British boxer and world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, World Boxing Association (WBO) has decided to take away his WBO belt unless he responds to a notice from the Chairman of  WBO within 10 days.

WBO said that this British boxer must explain to them why WBO belt should not be taken away from him for his “inactivity, breach of contract and performance-enhancing drugs”.

The world heavyweight champion didn’t play his rematch with Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko citing mental health problems. Tyson has also confessed to taking cocaine to deal with his depression.

The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBOFC) is scheduled to meet on October 12 to take up the matter of Tyson’s recent admission of having cocaine to deal with his mental health problems. Tyson who currently boasts of both WBO and the WBA titles made this admission during an interview to the Rolling Stone magazine.

The chairman of WBO Luis Batista-Salas expressing his concerns for this British boxer said that he is worried about Tyson’s health, happiness, well-being and chances of his full recovery.

On the other hand WBA president Gilberto Mendoza in an interview to Sportsweek said that the world heavyweight champion should get a chance to get over his current condition. Mendoza further added that top priority for them is looking at what is going on with the title and the entire situation revolving around this British boxer. WBA president further added that as of now he can’t definitely say whether they will strip him of his title or not but in their final decision they will definitely take into account the fact that Fury had taken a banned substance and gone against the rules.

On the other hand, Peter Fury who happens to be Tyson’s trainer and uncle said that Tyson will start his career.

Tyson Fury hasn’t been seen playing since last November when he beat Klitschko and earned for himself the WBA, IBF and WBO titles. However adding to his problems, his IBF title was taken away from him within two weeks of winning it because he couldn’t fight the mandatory challenger against Vyacheslav Glazkov.

After Tyson’s most recent withdrawal from a boxing encounter, boxing fans saw flip flops in Tyson’s position. Tyson initially tweeted that he has retired from his boxing career and this was the saddest thing that happened to him. However, he later retracted his statement.
