World Champions Germany Are Confident of Winning Again In Russia In 2018

Criticism for being out of form appears to have increased the German Soccer team’s determination to prove itself as the best team in the world. Mats Hummels, the German defender, said that his team’s winning start to the World Cup Qualifiers where they secured two wins in two matches despite their recent upset in Euro 2016 does seem to point to the fact that his team is still one of the best soccer teams in the world.

According to the defender, Germany’s Tuesday encounter with Northern Ireland in the World Cup Qualifier will give the side yet another chance to prove themselves as hot favourites to clinch the coveted football World Cup in 2018 in Russia.

By beating the Czech Republic on Saturday by 3-0 the Germans are at the top of their group with six points. In their first World Cup Qualifier match against Norway, they beat the Norwegians by the same margin.

Hummels, while speaking to the reporters on Monday, said that this impressive start by his team is a befitting reply to the critics who criticised his team for their poor performance in the Euro 2016 where they lost to France in the semi-finals and also their poor show in the Euro qualifying campaign.

The German defender said that his team will do whatever it can do to prepare for the 2018 World Cup. He stated that in the two-year period leading up to the World Cup, the team will use all its resources to train well and be well prepared. He added that his team is now on a “good track” and they want to show to the world that they are one of the best teams in the world.

On the basis of goal difference the Germans are ahead of Azerbaijan and are the top of Group C. On the other hand, Northern Ireland, their opponents on Tuesday in the qualifiers, is at the third position in Group C with four points.

A bit of positive news for Germany is that they might have Jerome Boateng back in the team after his recent injury in the game against the Czech Republic. Jerome Boateng is expected to be next to Hummels in central defence. Jonas Hector is also expected to be back. He along with Boateng will complete only a part of their final training session before they are back to the team.
